'Dad's Army' raise £12,000 on D-Day walk

Hampshire’s very own Dad’s Army successfully completed a 100km sponsored march for the Geoff Smith Foundation, taking in all five of the Normandy beaches used for the D-Day landings.

With a combined age of more than 700 years, the 12 man team embarked on their four day walk at the beginning of May. So far, over £12,000 has been raised for the charity and for Help for Heroes.

Geoff, who organised the walk himself said ‘We had the most incredible time. The camaraderie was tremendous as we reminded ourselves of the heroics of our troops during the Second World War.

Walking up to six hours a day, Geoff was joined by Laurence Ross, Dave Turpin, Lee Peck, John Smith, Tony Frost, Pete Vickers, Mark Bulley, Les Broughton, Mike Earls, Leighton Moat and Mike Cowie.
